$700B Bailout Gives A Tax Break To NASCAR Tracks
Yes, you heard right. The Government decided to include NASCAR in it's plan to "rescue" the country from the economic crisis we are facing.
Under the terms of the financial “rescue plan,” motor sports facilities will be allowed to depreciate their capital investments over a 7 year period rather than the previously stated 15 year time frame. That means less of the earnings from each of those seven years will go towards taxes, helping the track owners achieve a higher annual profit in the short term. The new provision will provide incentives for track owners to invest in their facilities on improvements such as repaving tracks, new concession stands, parking lots and more.
Normally, I would be screaming "FOUL" at this point, but I gave it more thought and you should too.
This not only helps NASCAR track owners make upgrades to the facilities that have earned them millions, but jobs get created through it. When the tracks contract the repaving of the racing surface so Kyle Busch can get put in the wall by someone paying him back for an earlier race incident, this creates jobs for the contractors involved in the paving. Or when the owners of these facilities repave the parking lots, so drunken fans can pass out on a smooth piece of concrete, this creates jobs and revenues for construction workers (who are suffering through this housing crisis tremendously, I know because I am in construction as well).
In the past, owners used this tax break to install the safer barrier walls on many tracks, which could have saved lives had it been on the tracks sooner (lives like Dale Earnhardt Sr).
In closing of this short post, before you cry foul because the government gave a tax break to track owners, essentially, this will boost economic growth by providing revenues to many companies and the folks who work for them. This creates revenues for all the businesses that these workers do business with, from grocery stores, to restaurants, to landlords, to mortgage companies, gas stations, retail shops (Christmas is soon!) and many more. I though about what the average construction worker makes, maybe $500 a week. Do you think he gets to keep any of it under his pillow? No, it all gets spent somewhere. So, every job created, in a sense, helps the rest of us who luckily still are working.

Earnhardt Jr and Busch Mix It Up - Busch Loses Battle

When Kyle Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr. got together on May 3rd, 2008 in Richmond on a Saturday night, I had a feeling that the incident was not to be forgotten. It was difficult to place blame if you watched the replay over and over (I did since I have a DVR), but simply put, Kyle Busch is wreckless, and drove into the corner to hard. Then as I watched the Kyle Busch / Dale Earnhardt Jr. wreck in slow motion, Kyle Busch was turning right! That's right, Kyle Busch was turning right up into Dale Jr! I could not tell if Kyle got loose and was correcting that, or if he was being his typical wreck anybody to get a win self that he is. If I had to guess, it would be the latter.
At the conclusion of the race, Dale Jr. gave his opinion of the younger, immature Kyle Busch and responded in a classy way. I often wonder if he is really the son of the great Dale Earnhardt Sr. because Dale Sr would said it like it was, the wreck was no accident. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is a classier act than his late father The Intimidator was. Dale Sr. was one of the best to ever race the NASCAR series, and I was in the Infield at Daytona when he passed. But, Dale Jr. outranks his father in class.
Fast forward to September 7th, 2008 and the Chevy Rock and Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway. I had it in the back of my mind, could there be any payback from Dale Jr. if Kyle Busch got close enough? No way, I thought, Dale Earnhardt Jr is too classy for that. It would be like stooping to Kyle's level of being a wreckless, immature, crybaby driver.
Was I wrong? Dale Jr and Kyle Busch get together on the track, the result is Kyle Busch getting spun out and Dale Jr passing him by. The crowd went CRAZY! They were cheering Dale Jr for knocking NASCAR's biggest baby out of the race.
Upon further review with my remote and my trusty DVR, it was obvious that Dale Earnhardt Jr was smoking the front tires trying to avoid Kyle Busch as Busch came down into Jr. Of course, there were others in the room with me who had a different opinion of what happened.
I will stick to my assessment of the accident, and call it that, an accident.
What do you think? Was it Dale Jr payback, or another case of Kyle Busch being wreckless? Leave a comment to let us know your opinion.

NASCAR Collecting - Why do you collect NASCAR Stuff?
I always seem to get the question "why do you collect Nascar stuff?" and "what makes Nascar collecting so unique?".
So today I am going to answer just that question!
Nascar collecting is something more than just having a bunch of race cars around your room or house, it's about enjoying what you have and respecting it for what it is. Nascar diecast and other Nascar branded items are usually quite expensive. So as you might think it takes quite a lot of dedication to grow and expand ones collection to the size of their choice.

Nascar items range from just five dollars up to hundreds depending on the item and the rarity.
So what makes Nascar collecting so unique is the fact that you get what you pay for. Every Nascar item that I have purchased has been very sturdy and to the utmost quality that I would ever expect.
Nascar memorabilia is very rare in most cases with limited quantities of one item ever being made. This offers each collector the opportunity to own something unique just to themselves and to enjoy the satisfaction that only so many people have the same piece.
The uniqueness outshines any other sports collecting in my opinion because unlike baseball cards and such you can actually build or buy a nice glass cabinet and display your diecast and show it off to guests unlike with baseball cards and such where they would fade and loose value.

It is always special to have a Nascar stock car replica piece, and as years go on they are getting more and more detailed in ways such as actual moving parts, removable chassis and such.
The variety of memorabilia is always changing with new drivers and new areas to be explored such as diecast, clothing, stickers, children's toys and so on. This is what makes Nascar collecting so unique, the fact that we can enjoy our collection without jeopardizing its value and at the same time have fun with our favorite sport!

I Miss Dale Earnhardt - What Would He Think now?
I have a statue of Dale Earnhardt on my desk and he looks at everyone who comes into my domain with the same cheshire grin and crossed arms. Sometimes I wonder what he would think about all that has gone on in NASCAR since he left us that fateful day in 2001?
- Would Dale Earnhardt be impressed with the antics of Kyle Bush?
- Would Dale Earnhardt be impressed with the really fine way his son has matured?
- Would Dale Earnhardt have a word or two with Teresa Earnhardt about how she has allowed his race team to almost become insignificant in the sport?
I think Dale Earnhardt would not be impressed, and as it was when he was with us he would not complain about anything. He would take care of what needed to be taken care of, behind the scenes or behind the wheel.
